Do you see her?! Contemporary Chinese artist Liu Bolin meticulously camouflages his subjects into their surroundings. One part painting, one part installation, one part photograph and one part sheer awesomeness, the resulting images are powerful statements of our invisibility within our environments.
He recently completed this series for Harper’s Bazaar using fashion designers such as Valentino’s Pierpaolo Piccioli, Gaultier’s Jean Paul Gaultier and Missoni’s Angela Missoni. Regarding the series, Bolin states: “There are many Chinese citizens who need to prove themselves by buying Western brands. In this series, I hid each designer in his or her own designs: you think about the relationship between the world we create and ourselves.”
I swoon for this photo shoot. Not only is a fantastic series by a substantial contemporary artist, but it is a beautiful commentary on the fashion industry as a whole. Not to mention the fact that this technique is unbelievably amazing. Love.
See if you can spot the designers hidden below (hint: both Maria Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli from Valentino are in the photograph – I almost missed him entirely!!)
